Standards of Behaviour

ECB –  April 2011

Non Negotiable Standards of Behaviour in all school and Under 15 age group cricket.
It is unacceptable to :

1) Dispute a decision by an umpire by word, action or gesture.
2) Abuse equipment or the pitch.
3) Use abusive language towards an opponent.
4) Deliberately bowl fast high full pitched balls.
5) Deliberately attempt to distract the striker by word, action or gesture.
6) Advance towards an umpire in an aggressive manner when appealing.
It is expected that in the event of an occurrence of any of the above the following will take place: The umpires will verbally report the incident to the team manager, coach or master in charge who will take action – see below:

In the event of the umpires not hearing or observing the incident EITHER team manager, coach or master in charge can advise that action is required:

Actions :

  • Within 24 hours of the incident the umpire or reporting manager, coach or master in charge to advise the relevant organising body:
  • ECB Competitions Department – competitions@ecb.co.uk
  • Local County Board (local email address to be used).
  • HMC Schools Cricket Committee – schoolscricketonline@yahoo.co.uk
  • ESCA Committee (General Secretary) ken.lake@aelm.karoo.co.uk
  • If none of the above apply then report to the nominated person named by the governing organisation of the competition.

The management of the player/team referred to in the report to :

  • Advise the team captain that he/she is responsible for upholding the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ and REPORT the action taken to advise the relevant organising body :-
  • ECB Competitions Department and the appropriate High Performance Manager within the County – competitions@ecb.co.uk
    County Board (local email address to be entered)
  • HMC Schools Cricket Committee – schoolscricketonline@yahoo.co.uk
  • ESCA Committee (General Secretary) – ken.lake@aelm.karoo.co.uk
  • If none of the above apply then report to the nominated person in governing organisation of the competition.
  • Any incident in a match between schools should be reported, in the first instance to Mr W R Burton, Secretary Kent Schools’ C A wrb99@btopenworld.com

Applying sanctions :

  • Verbally advise the player/players that a breach of the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ had been observed and that appropriate persons had been notified.
  • In all cases, consideration should be given to the issuing of a final warning or omission from next match or matches.
